Week of Sept. 15, 2008

By nilamo, Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:17 am in Novel of the Week

So, I just finished reading The Circle trilogy by Ted Dekker. [WP]

Amazing. Basically, the main character [Thomas Hunter], gets knocked out and wakes up in another world. This other world exists at an indeterminant period in the future. Everything we experience here, is recorded down there in "The Books of Histories". Everytime he falls asleep there, he wakes up here, and vise versa. While years can go by in world, mere minutes can pass in the other.

This becomes important, as a virus is released in our world, quickly infecting everyone. Tom quickly finds that he can help fight the virus (and help find an anti-virus) by searching through the Books of History.

review: to own a dragon

By omochan, Tue Aug 26, 2008 5:33 am in Book Reviews

this book by Donald Miller is a series of reflections on growing up without a father and the mark that leaves on males in particular. It was a good read. He's funny, intelligent and very honest. Not necessarily in a way that is emotional, but more in a way that opens him up and somehow gets you to open up, too.

the chapter titles threw me almost every chapter, but they were well used to make his points. i would recommend it to any guy at all. not necessarily an epic poem, but it's pretty good.

5/5...

The five-book-trilogy tells the story of Arthur Dent -- a man with terrible luck and even worse coincidences in his life. His journey, essentially begins with him discovering his house is to be demolished. Shortly thereafter, he is informed by his friend, Ford Prefect, that he (Ford) is an alien and a writer for a multi-galactic writing organization known as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and that the Earth is about to be destroyed.

Things generally head in a rather …...

Week of July 13th, 2008

By Catoblepas, Sun Jul 13, 2008 9:51 pm in Novel of the Week

This week's novel was picked off my own shelf, and it is definitely a classic. It's one that I have read several times over the years. I probably needed each time too, just to understand the novel. The Novel of the Week for this week is the famous Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. This novel, written originally in 1818, is one of the best horror/thriller novels of our time. The novel is one of action, of fear, and of a little romance. ...
